  1. Are freeholds really going to be casual player friendly? I feel like they're likely going to be all taken up by the people who can invest 12+ hours a day, and casual players will be left with the cheapest options. I could be wrong, but when I heard of the freeholds, that's what I was expecting.

  2. I think someone else stated it, including Steven himself. Freeholds are not going to be easy to get. He said something along the lines of it takes a real investment to get the freehold.

What that says to me with their current plan… (a bad one imo) for free holds, is the only people with free holds will be the people who can devote 5 to 12 hours a day.

But hey! Steven just leaked we'll learn some concrete info, so maybe this won't be the case.

I'm glad Steven wants a niche mmo that caters to a very specific crowd, but they have to realize they've targeted a much larger audience than their current design choices are really made for. Many of those people are going to be left severely disappointed when there isn't a portion of the game that feels welcoming to them.

I think BDO is a good example how there can be niche concepts that build completely different communities within the same project. Despite some of the pain points of BDO I know a lot of people who continued to life skill because its one of the better casual experiences in an mmo, and it manages to do that wrapped in a pvp package.

Heck my wife was one of them. She just wanted to find and raise horses. And she did that and made a fricken horse empire and had more plat than I ever did in the game. And she enjoyed building up to her perfect player house in the game.

She only had a few bad player experiences in many hours of playing. Although those few were almost quit moments for her, but she stuck it out for the great life skilling.

She has very much lost interest in Ashes because she's worried it will be to pvp focused and she won't be able to hop on and just enjoy the pretty world and adventure of it. She likes the sandbox, just with less fire ants in it if you know what I mean.

  3. Some of the data on the MiG is inaccurate. Don't forget that when all the freehold spaces are taken buying from another player isn't the only way to acquire one…though I'm sure it will be the most common scenario. A freehold can be destroyed during, and shortly after a node siege. If the node falls whichever freeholds that are destroyed will go back into the pot so to speak and will be able to purchased again but from the node not a player. If the node falls and a new node doesn't get jurisdiction over loose freeholds in fast enough period of time it will also be destroyed and go back into the pot.
