What other MMOs do you recommend that I try out?

I've done the same thing. I played a few MMo's on Xbox and after finding AoC i switched to PC and started playing FF14. There has been so much that I have learned in the past year and am still figuring out. I thought I knew what rotations and cooldowns was and then I got into end game raiding, I had to rearrange all the buttons on my hot keys several times and figure out potion times and best times to hit buttons. The first week made my brain melt with how much different things were from the I thought it was supposed to be.

I'm gonna tell you something Xillin told me a long time ago. "I think you'll be great at Ashes because you want to be great at Ashes." But I am disappointed you used Naruto as an example for a time skip instead of One Piece which actually did a good time skip.
You get better at MMOs by playing MMOs. Simple as that. So you're headed in the right direction, keep going.
So many players are concerned with the endgame and being top tier, which causes tons of stress and toxic situations.
Look at the game long term. Do you have to hit max level in two weeks, or can it take a couple of months. If you plan on the possibility of playing the game for several years, then what is the rush? Casual players will be fine.
My opinion on PKing in an open world is that it may be scary. However, I feel it will wane over time. Upon release, it may be unnecessarily popular. Over time, it should drop. I don't see you fighting everyone you see. Sure, there will be certain situations or areas where it will happen, but I am hopeful it will not be as rampid as everyone is saying.

Your lack of experience affects your perception of what MMO "hardcore" means.
I was a Hardcore player in the past, so I'll tell you that only ONE-in-1000 MMO players are "hardcore".
So you'll fit in just fine. Gain PvP experience in the meantime though, because it changes how you look at things in-game.
That's a good way to get a better perspective to what Ashes is bringing to the table as well. I started with Everquest when it released and have played every type off MMO you can imagine. The thing I have learned over that time is have fun and try new things. If your enjoying playing your character you will get better over time.
