The problem is: They took too long… now there are way better games that will come out sooner (or close): TL, Pax Dei, Quinfall, Dune, Riots, etc
I've had similar thoughts about a multi-year long Alpha 2 killing all the release hype for the game.
this other games are also not right around the corner. Ashes has still the potential to be the first. and Crowfall had a lots of problems, also it was a PVP game. and most players you get with solo PVE mmos.
In their pursuit of creating a perfect MMO, they are allowing others to create one, which means they will lose their player base, now don't get me wrong, I am totally looking forward to this game but at the same time, I do find the support for it dwindling as it continues to be developed with no mention of a release of an Alpha 2. I do hope that they either give us a date for it or just drop it altogether sometime soon.
This is wrong. The amount of quality that Intrepid is putting into the game’s systems is nothing close to what’s been done in the industry and Ashes continued to develop the quality unlike Crowfall or New World. Even if the upcoming MMOs that release near Ashes release date are really good it will not cause Ashes to die. There would have to be a problem with the population for MMO players for this to really be a problem. Also there really isn’t much of a downside to showing the gameplay and systems as you make it seem. They will reveal the fundamentals and keep most of the content and advancement in closed development until release.
I probably play Throne and Liberty, Aion 2 and Archeage 2 over Ashes of Creation when even Ashes of Creation is released in a far future…
I don't know why people think 7 years is such a long time to develop an mmo. WoW was in development for 8 years, EQ was about the same.
