Class Design is extremely important in an MMORPG and Ashes of Creation most certainly has ambitious plans with their 64 Class system. But can Intrepid really nail the Class fantasy of Warriors, Mages, Clerics and Rangers within an Open Virtual World?
Well, today we’re exploring this and the possibilities for Class Design in Ashes of Creation from both an Aesthetics and Mechanics Point of View

Well let's ask this in the next monthly live stream Q&A because it's extremely important to lots of us
WoW had 7 classes × 3 specs at its start and they were not balanced really well. As time went they dropped the balance entirely so that everyone can be anyone and do everything.
Why should I expect that 8 classes × 8 specs are going to be balanced and distinct? It's more like 5 of them are going to be viable and the rest are just there so we could brag about having 64
times the detailclasses.Narc out here again with his boomer takes about action combat vs tab
narc… we need to talk about the zerg
Noice vid
I have to agree with you about the UI and the class specific resourcess and think that your examples for them are good as well. I prefer a UI design like it is in ff14 simply because it is much clearer and satisfying then the one of wow. For the rotation I would like to see some combos that for exmaple have a threat increasing rotation (if player is a tank) or a threat decreasing rotation (if player is a dps) that at the same time builds your class resource so you can bring a nice choice situation midfight (do I play safe and do my threat decreasing rotation/combo or do I burst them and have the potential to aggro the mob/boss as a dps). I hope that Intrepid maybe read this and take this comment and your video as a inspiration or idea to make aoc as good as possible 😀
How? they copy Lineage 2 classes (c1 Dark Avenger) and the rest. That's the closest. Second best seems to be Blue Protocol.
stumbled upon your videos by accident but i am really happy i found a manchild having a meltdown every single video about some shitty game, looking forward to the next ones
An amazing idea Narc. I was hoping this was already an idea in the works over at intrepid and it was Steven's vision all along for something like this, but your visualizations provide clear and actionable explanations for a great idea.
Ashes of Someone's else creation
I agree.
Tanks and fighters need rage bars.
Rogue and rangers need energy bars
Clerics, Mages, and Summoners need mana bars.
Bards are debatable. But, an energy bar with sigils might be interesting.
Having different energy/mana/rage bars will help keep the mixed classes have different play style. Such as a Fighter/Rogue (A Shadowblade) will have a rage bar. While a Rogue/Fighter (Duelist) will have a energy bar.
there is not 64 classes. you said it yourself there is 8 and you can mix two. there is not going to be 64 unik classes in a game, and not with a team that small, we are talking something like GW. stop over hyping the game, you are going to kill it just by making it somthing it was never going to be. it is a small MMO made by a small team, for hardcore fans.
Damn, this is one of your best videos yet!
The changing UI bar colors seems like such a tiny, and easy to make, change but I agree I feel like it would make each class feel a little more unique and make it a bit more immersive
Aren't builders and spenders just "follow the optimal rotation of cooldowns" with extra steps though?
This man keeps crafting copium out of thin air. Also totally agree with the class unique UI for specific resources. Also pls classes without mana. mana = magic.
I really don't think class specific resources + class specific UI's are as Essential as Narc makes them out to be, i see those thing as extra superficial "nice to have" things with barely any importance to the class as a whole and nothing else.
5:09 Actually, just a few days ago i posted at the AoC forum a discusion about resource management called "[GAMING CHANGING] RESOURCE MANAGEMENT". If you could take a look and elaborate on some better ideias, it would be very appreciated. Thanks for making the hype stay alive with your videos.
I usually upvote your content but its impossible to do so this time when you are saying classes are great in wow+14 when the gameplay potential is severly sacrificed.
It's a shame, I understand you're trying to milk the kids that are addicted to wow and 14 but I have a duty as someone with a brain.
What is your "out" phrase going to be when you actually do get a good MMO??? 😀
I have been playing WoW recently to play through the MoP, and I also play FF14. I agree with the UI changing with the class/spec you use. I don't want to look like somebody else when I'm playing something potentially *very* different. And I also want to be able to *feel* like my class/spec is different.
Dynamic UI changes is probably the best way to go about that. Hopefully Steven sees this and talks with his team about it, or maybe it's already being considered?
Also, I cant really think of how the bard will play, and that's blocking me a bit from imagining the other 'specs', so to speak. Which brings me to this question.
What do you think some of the class specs will be like? I'd be interested to here you talk about some of the classes that you find potentially enjoyable, and how their second class pick would change the way they play. I quite enjoy hearing your theories on how the warden plays, and the others you mentioned.
All hypothetical of course, but that's never stopped a copium addict like you, from talking about a game that literally… doesn't exist.
i would love them to take big insperation from black desert, its a super cool mmo but i dont like it, if it wasnt for class race locks and that korean gamplay loop it would have been amazing. But for all its downsides, be it p2w grind shit, the combat is top! they have a semi direction lock attack system that lets you move alot more freely then games like elden ring or dark souls, plus abilitys that are designed to be woven into normal attacks for combos etc. And for AOCs 64 classes they could go the way ESO went, where you have like for example the necromancer, he has 3 skill trees, one in general is for DPS, one for Tanking and one for Healing. Esos classes almost all follow that same foundation, every skill can then be upgraded, some may be turned from a magic damage ability to one that does physical damage but now also needs stamina. and if i understood it correctly AOC is basically something like that, where you have a fighter and throw a different spice in the pot to get a class that has a similar but uniqe play style.
This needs more attention. Please, make sure this is delivered.
imagine thinking this game isnt dead before launch. thats even worst than bless online haha
I think aoc ui is still wip. I wouldn't get worked up about it ATM. But I wouldn't hurt to ask some questions to the devs about it
