With the first of our 2023 Livestreams concluded and THE TANK ARCHETYPE finally in it’s full glory we get a detailed look at a few of it’s starter abilities, Class mechanics, Active Blocking and group synergies and many more teases upcoming for this highly anticipated MMORPG Ashes of Creation.

My Impressions of the Tank preview:
It’s still very much in an early Alpha state (obviously) However, what we saw today, especially from an aesthetics POV I was very pleased and I’m looking forward to providing some feedback in the following videos.
I’d love to hear your feedback down in the comments and also in our degenerate discord of non parasocial copium addicts: https://discord.gg/muwNp8NhbB

  2. Question from someone that is not following AoC that much, is this combat system like what they want for the game? like looks very super oldschool tab targeting combat system, are people hyped about that?

  3. So my only worry with the combat is that from what ive seen the impact of spells seems very minimal(most of the impact is a flash vfx), there isn't a whole lot of weight to attacks barring the grapple, paired with a little bit of an issue with a clear display of what an attacks legibility, in that they sort of blend together. If you've ever played games like guild wars 2 it suffers from some of the things that combat has issues with, feeling somewhat spammy. From an outside perspective its hard to tell what's really going on.

  4. Booooring…I would like to see a BloodLetter tank, NOT to be confused with a Deathknight. A blood tank is actually using bloodmagic the warcraft dk doesnt even compare to a real blood tank.
So im hoping we see more different types of tanks because im seriously getting sick of playing sword and board normal tanks with a righteous and holy attitude.

    Blood for the blood god.

  5. I don't like the active block mechanics displayed at all. It's just permanently getting damage reduction for holding your block button with no penalties. There is no skill expression involved in this iteration of active blocking.

There should either be some sort of stamina bar to prevent permanent blocking, or it should hamper your agro generation in some fashion so that you risk the monster running amok if you focus on blocking too much, and active blocking should reduce much more damage. A tank not active blocking well should be taking more noticeable damage and fail to control the fight well.

  6. Very nice to see they included the damage absorb for the tank, as that kind of ability is incredibly important for keeping tanks relevant in PvP. Obviously taunts are basically useless in a PvP environment (unless they have a secondary/debuff function when used in PvP, like they do in SWtOR) but a damage absorb skill, especially if it is used at the right time, can really help provide a PvP tank with a valuable function. Aside from perhaps copying the TOR example of allowing taunts to have a damage debuff effect (if the target is attacking anything other than the tank for the duration of the taunt), I think the other important role they could make available for tanks in AoC is giving them a very potent snare/slow. Loading dps classes up with too much CC is a bad move, as it can easily throw PvP balance into the toilet, but if a lower damage class like the tank can help perform that role, then it gives them increased functionality, and avoids a situation where the dps classes are the be all to end all, simply because they've been given the lion share of CC along with the best damage in game.

  7. Personally not a huge fan of tanking styles that immobilize you or things like active blocking that result in a low boring apm play style. I’d rather have more active abilities.

  8. If you want to see the Tank gameplay I suggest you don't watch the VOD but watch the re-recording that was done afterwards. In this Steven goes more in depth into the Tank abilities and how they work and we get to see some great team gameplay and how well the Tank works with that.
