The Tank MUST be GREAT! | Ashes of Creation

IMO, the most important class to get right is the Tank. Finding ways to fix the typical Tank shortages, finding ways to make Tanks work properly in PVP, and just living up to the standard that has been built in MMOs historically. There are a lot of good examples of Tanking that I am showcasing for ideas of how to build a great MMO tank.

  1. Curb your expectations. Most of what you're talking about, will be part of the final balancing and polish.AoC is basically in a pre-alpha stage, so you shouldn't expect more than basic system design decisions and bare bones iterations. If you want this channel to be more than vapour ware and a dream- game vision, I would focus on what we have and realistic predictions. Dreams and suggestions are fine, but they are a dime a dozen and everyone has plenty.
    Hope you can take this as constructive criticism.

  2. what Jan show is gonna focus on the Tank class ? heck ye my very early plan so far is being a Tank in AoC, a Dwarf Tank,
    With Blackmsith and Mining as professions so i can craft my own gear mostly, and they said the best stuff will be crafted, so ofc i can help others also
    Thinking of Weaponsmith so i can craft Weapons n Shields, maybe do a 2nd character with Blacksmith / Armor Smith,

  3. Great insight! I personally have never played a tank in any MMO, so I cannot relate to many of the grievances. However I respect it. Here's to hoping tanks are viable in most situations they find themselves in

  4. Not a fan of threat systems that have to balance out dps numbers and healing. Don't like micromanaging mechanics like that. I'd rather be engaged by good enemy mechanics, positioning, buffing the group and of course keeping yourself alive. I would just like a straight forward taunt where the enemy only attacks you for however long when you use it.

  5. The mmo I played the most was Blade and Soul. Even tho not everything regarding tanks was good I there were a lot of good in there:

    1: The threat generation was based on damage dealt, this would ensure that you needed gear and to actually know your class to tank anything. (You couldn't just go: "Uga Buga tanking is easy I will make an alt tank and will tank everything")
    2: The way tanks survived was thought Positioning, Iframes and Blocking. So if the tank player doesn't know the fight he would be cosplaying a carpet! Which in my opinion is good because it requires a certain degree of skill.

    The main issue on how tank was handled was that threat was triggered by the main skill of the rotation which reduced the flexibility of the tanking process.

    And btw in BnS there were no healer/tank/dps… Every class was a dps class however there were dps with heal, dps with threat and dps with utility. This made sure that every class was viable in solo PVE, group PVE and PVP.
