Ashes of Creation – Are Monster Coins P2W?

Read more about Ashes of Creation ➜ https://ashesofcreation.mgn.tv

So one of the things Ashes of Creation is planning on having in game is random events that affect Nodes. Sometimes these are directly the result of player actions, sometimes they are due to players neglecting something, and sometimes they come about due to Nodes leveling up. All these things are fine, but then we get to the fact that players can take control of these monsters with Monster Coins, an item that was obtained via Kikstarter and that will be sold in the Cosmetic Cash shop.

Since you can disrupt an enemy node, are these P2W? A little P2W? Not P2W? Let’s deep dive in and talk about it.

  1. the devs concentrating to much on milking players while not having a working game so on paper aoc sounds nice but as long as they dont release a playable game i would not invest 1penny. compare it with new world they have a working game its not perfect it has flaws but its playable and it has less "give us your monney" stuff.

  2. This game sounded to good to be true 5 months ago. Now its looking like that is the case, week by week its going down hill fast. Hopefully when it comes out in 2025 or 2030 its actually good.

  3. Youre well informed and clearly think this stuff out. Points aside cut down the condescending attitude and people will rally to your cause. Your phrasing and tone make people want to do the opposite to spite you.

  4. Starting to become very disappointed with this game. I was fine with the battle royale for server testing and all of the cosmetic things they were releasing, and then they announced they were behind schedule and my stance is changed. Now it seems like everything I hear about the game is in the negative. It's pretty sad that I'm more excited for ArcheAge 2 than Ashes of Creation at this point. People were touting this as the 'ArcheAge killer' back in the day, when it was on Kickstarter.

  5. Could you go a bit more in-depth about why the 15$/month can't finance the game? From my rough estimate, a single server with 8000 active players can finance 5 employees. So with ~50 servers of such a size, the game should be doing good from a financial standpoint, shouldn't it?

  6. BS a 15 euro/dollar monthly subscription is more than enough to keep a game afloat, especially a game with such a hype behind it also mmo crowd is starving for a new title. Cash shop has no place in a sub based MMO

  7. why not simply separate the 2, i'm sorry i'm not really up to date with this monster coin system, but from what i understood from this video.

how about 'monster coin (shop)' coins used to buy stuff from cosmetic shop, and then 'monster coin' in game, used for the monster event bla bla.

i failed to understand why they HAVE to be the same coins, they can simply have 2x types of monster coins no?
    or did i miss something?

  8. you talking about the monster coins is the equivalent of being a teacher with a whole class of kids with adhd.
also for the cash shop what would you consider off limits obviously nothing obviously p2w but for example do you think armor and weapon cosmetics are ok do you think mount skins would be ok would housing cosmetics be ok stuff like that.

  9. P2W is like Voldemort: the word you shall not say. People already complain about cosmetics for their possible visual advantage, imagine monster coins.

Ashes needs to absolutely be P2W-free or else why should anyone believe anything else they say?

  10. Just my opinion but players go nuts over cosmetics. Ive seen friends of mine dump hundreds of dollars in one go. No need to have an in game mechanic be sold in the shop. Nerfing the player controlled monster is definitely an option if they insist on keeping it in the cash shop but having it only damage players will kinda take the fun out of the monster. The best part about it is that you can target specific structures to weaken your opponent. I havent followed this game super close lately, just basing this opinion on this video alone.

  11. I don't like changing the parameters of the Monsters in the event, to prevent damage to the node buildings.
MC's should be a valuable resource, and untradeable. Then the threat of a coordinated attack remains, and that keeps things interesting because every attack could be different. It would also require the defending Node to use coordinated defense tactics to eliminate monsters who are attacking key buildings first. What I don't want is, player-controlled monsters to be obvious to defenders by making their names turn orange or something obnoxious like that. No hand-holding, make people observe the battle, and defend key structures!

  12. Yeah sounds good, i'm on board with that monster coin fix. Player controlled monsters can't damage buildings or I could see a small list of certain small structures that a player monster can destroy, like maybe a player monster can destroy vendor stalls, chairs, beds and doors, like you can be this jackass rapture that during the event made it your goal to destroy the wooden front door on every building so that after the event every carpenter in town gets a boom of business on door requisitions.

  13. Actually I do think the sub pays for the game and it’s further development assuming you have a balance between the number of players vs devs.
I have no idea what to expect but my first calculation here was 50k players paying $15 a month, that’s $750k per month. Let’s say the devs are making an average of 70k per year and let’s also say they keep 100 devs employed post-launch. That’s roughly 600k per month. You have some wiggle room left if you want to say there will be more than 100 devs or the average pay is higher. Because as of right now we have $150k left over per month.

Now add the cosmetics from the cash shop, which we don’t know the cost of (at least I haven’t heard anything about costs) but the low end $10 and the high end $30, let’s call it $20 per cosmetic outfit just for an average, and let’s say 10% of players buy 1 cosmetic each month. That’s an additional $100k per month.

I do not think we need monster coins in the cash shop but I also don’t mind having them there assuming intrepid makes them obtainable in game like they’ve said. And if they balance them like you suggested in this video.

  14. I paid for the most expensive set currently available several months ago. The way I had read it, I thought I would be getting all cosmetics from that point forward. My fault. I read it wrong I guess.

I say that to say this. I'm starting to get the feeling that the game is not being funded by our rich millionaire friend, but by these extraordinarily high priced sets and cosmetics. Now with these coins I'm getting the archeage feeling again. I hope I'm wrong.

  15. you cant just drop a siege flag whenever you want tho right? i thought it had to be at a set time that the defenders agreed to so that theres no suprise attacks

  16. I think limiting the ability of players to dmg buildings is only going to work for the most basic monster coin the legion level. What happens in the elite and epic tier monster coins where there is one or two big monsters attacking a node. I still want these events to have an impact and be meaningful. It would be disappointing to awaken a giant dragon only to have it be harmless to the node if a player takes over. That being said I don’t have a better idea to make them not p2w. Let me know your thoughts:)
