100 REASONS why PVE SERVERS can't work for ASHES OF CREATION

So first it was a discussion about the open world PVP system and how even with the corruption system nothing was going to stop the game from becoming a gank-box. After breaking down corruption, how every kill requires between 2.8 and 6.4 hours of grinding to earn back, and how corruption compounds with each kill and is multiplied by not only how many kills you have but also the level disparity. Apparently that wasn’t enough because now the push is for PVE servers.

Now, don’t get me wrong, PVE servers work in some games, but Ashes of creation has too many interconnected and interwoven systems to suddenly just remove flagging and hope that it doesn’t cause a cascade breakdown. Take out flagging, there goes bounty hunting. That’s 1 of 8 PVP themes gone. Caravans become less of an option since you can run 10% of a caravan load with your mule out. Just like that 2 of 8 systems gone. Player Agency and Emergent Gameplay turning into conflict? Not without flagging.

I’m willing to listen to any argument about how PVE servers could work. Just leave it in the comments or come over to my show.

  1. As a player, I'm worried about PvP and hoping I can team up with a group of people who will let me focus on my crafting. My mom is even more of a care bear than me and I worry ashes just won't be a game for her. That being said, not every game has to be for everyone!
It's just frankly ridculous for people to suggest ashes does away with such core pillar of it's design. Clearly they don't know what they are talking about. I think they need to take a serious look at themselves and try something outside of their comfort zone or recognize that this may not be the game for them.

  2. Really liked the Video. Tbh i play on pve Servers in WoW (classic) too. But Ashes simply does not work without it. So much AOC Content on Youtube is not Fact based and just an interpretation or speculation on things that they see in Stream. Keep it up Jahlon!

  3. I really don’t understand why people are already panicking. I have always played on pvp servers on (classic) WoW (currently having 2 level 80’s on a fresh WotLk server). The griefing is really not that bad and there isn’t even a corruption system in place. AoC will be just fine.

  4. awesome video. People have said it a million times already but let me say it again, not every game is for every player. Stop trying to change pvp focused games to pve focused games. You cannot have it all. And im willing to bet if you stfu and let intrepid bring their vision to reality there will be a place for pve players. there certainly was in archeage, and there will be in aoc.

  5. I get the impression with the system that is being developed unwanted pvp can be avoided almost all of the time, it just means you have to play more safely and accept that maybe you won't progress as fast or high as people who do take risks.

  6. I disagree with you on many things. but not this one, you're absolutely right, the game can't work without owPvP unless you turn it into a different game, and honestly I don't understand all this drama, people forget something very important, ashes is a game, games have rules and if you don't want to play by the rules you just play a different game, no one tries to change monopoly because it doesn't allow you to play poker to earn more money… you just stop playing monopoly and go play poker.

  7. LG is right!!!
PvE servers would have the bigger population, ergo the game mechanics should be changed to suit them. It proves the masses want mmoSOLOrpgs with some pseudo-group content. Ergo, just don't develop games like AoC.

  8. You know that feeling when you have to laugh out loud because somebody is making a video spitting one fact after another? Great video! It is still mind boggling to me that so many people cannot see the nonsense in removing PvP from Ashes of Creation.

  9. WoW had zones like Wintergrasp with forced flagging. You can have those on a PVE server.

It sounds like the entire system of bounty hunters relies on griefing and pking – that sounds impossible to balance. Too many bounty hunters and griefers will find a different server or a different game.

  10. I am not sure this is well said. The main complaint is that by having pve server you remove the pvp content or need to make double work by havign a special pvp on pve server.

Actually you don't. The beauty of what was spoken in the other video, is that simply do the pvp content once, but on the pve server you simply disable the forced pvp. some part will be missing, but then the answer is simple : go to the pvp server. Same answer also with the economy and decay mechanic.

The issue is that many pvper understand intrinsically that a lot of pve-er do not want forced pvp, and thus would never visit the pvp server. Thus the same issue with pvp server dying many game had.

Not putting word in your mouth… But it feels a lot of your critic can be boiled down to "I want to have pve-er to endure my forced pvp upon them for MY content enjoyment, what the pve-er want be damned". By doing that you eliminate a whole slice of buyer , which will never want forced pvp, which means the financial number outlook for ash of creation or any such MMo looks lower, which means less money to expand further content…
There is a reason none of the most successful MMO have forced pvp, even BDO isn't that popular once you look at the western market only.

  11. 1:03 not to mention that that is literally the only point (that we know of) of military nodes, so you've negated 1/4 of the nodes in the game (assuming equal node type distribution).

Sorry if you bring this up later… I'm a 'comment as I go' kind of guy.
    4:22 you hit it! Nice!

  12. Very interesting information. I'm personally all for this game and VERY excited for it. But I didn't realize so much would have to be changed to meet the standards of a pve only world. I'm not for that.
You put out some good info and I'm gonna have to watch more of your vids.
