Funny video! Love your content. I am bummed you went for humor instead of substance in this one, but I get it, its your style. Would have been a lot more interesting to hear serious pros and cons of unrestricted griefing while purple though, since that was the topic of my video.
Counter points
You: Lucky never plays ESO PVP
Also you in a new vid every month: ESO pvp is shit and server performance is shittier
So it looks like you already know why I didn't PVP in ESO then?
I have somewhere between 3 to 5 thousand hours in this flagging system, which is what the video was about. all the way up through the Lineage 2 Classic in 2018 / 2019 just months before I started ESO streams. You can dismiss me as a PVEr who strictly hates pvp if you want, but its not accurate, given my second most played MMO is lineage 2, which happens to be exactly the game ashes is based on.
I appreciate your optimism that using the same flagging system will turn out different than in games past because of the corruption system, I don't share that optimism because the PVPers I played with were never deterred from something because they'd lose 3% xp. Will you be? They rarely lost their gear if they went red because they had a friend instantly kill them and give the gear back. Very rarely do players run around red, dealing with corruption. It just isn't worth the risk. Die to a friend, get your stuff back, move on with your day. risk of losing gear gone, risk of bounty hunter gone. at least this was how it played out on L2 and so I'm hoping to improve that in AoC.
My desire to improve that flagging system has incited so much anger in the AoC mega fans, kind of predictably . New World syndrome. People want so badly for the game to be amazing that they take it as a personal insult if someone says its not perfect. I get it. but it doesn't help the game be better when it launches.
Fact is, the system leaves a lot of room for griefing while purple. and yeah I told PVErs ashes wont be for them. Do you disagree? I think its important to set everyone straight because as my comments show, there were people hundreds of dollars deep in ashes that thought it was a PVE game. I'm not sure how. but they did.
Yes, I Called PVPers pvp andy's called PVErs unwashed masses, and to my surprise only the PVPers cried about named calling? They have the thinner skin on this front? Didn't expect that lol.
At the end of the day, even PVPers get bored of unfettered griefing after a while. Its not as exhilarating as you imagine it to be.
In my eyes it comes down to this, Is griefing going to provide a net positive or a net negative for the long term population health of the game. answer that honestly. Do more people stay because they can grief, than leave because they were griefed. I don't think so. Which is why I made the video
AoC has so much amazing PVP built into it, losing the ability to grief an individual endlessly wouldn't undermine that at all. It just helps prevent the player base bleed every PVP mmo before has experienced.
Final statement, the whole "don't talk about it in alpha when no one has had the chance to test it yet" argument is the most flawed statement you made in the video. It completely misses the point of an open-book alpha where the community can come together to point out potential ways to improve the game. Telling people to wait until after intrepid spent hundreds of days and hundreds of thousands of dollars developing systems to point out potential problems. That's your advice?
I guess different strokes for different folks
PS when you start making content about an actually popular game you're going to blow up. You saw it with your Elden Ring content then went back to ESO
This got long, sorry about that, but I always have too much to say about MMos so its not surprising
Cheers
THANK YOU FOR THE RIGHT PRONOUNCIATION OF NICHE!!!! Seriously, I rarely hear people say it right. Insta-like just for that alone!
I will never understand why people see a game advertised as PvP game they have to flock to it and insist on a flag system. Or trying to cut out a massive amount of content.
This system is very similar to Ultima Online and as he says in this video. There were player killers running around Red. And you had my guild and friends hunting them down. Or my alt that was a red character that I never worked off the karma. If you don’t like PvP. Go play a game that has the functions you want to avoid it.
But people are not going to get avenged by some vigilante group when killed most of the time. There just aren't enough people who care and too many people who want to be ass holes.
I see where lucky is coming from 2bh. AoC is definitely made for hardcore mmo fans, they admit that themselves. But I think a lot of people consider themselves more "hardcore" than they really are. I think their tune will change when they realise they have to wait a few irl weeks and collaborate with the community before anything will happen. When they realise they need to do this caravan system just to move their stuff around.
I believe there will be many people who really enjoy AoC, but I also think the hardcore mmo community is too small for it to really thrive. I could be wrong tho 🤷♂
reminds me of everyone demanding mounts in new world and AGS having to walk back things like separate storage for each town. Before launch the idea of building up the settlement you played out of was a positive, then it became a chore. Not that new world had a great launch- it's just a comparison I see.
You shouldn't use carebear like this, its only a slur in this context. If you don't like slurs such as the N word then you really shouldn't be using this one.
100% correct on New World. Just killing bots alone would be satisfying if you were always flagged for PVP in New World. Also it's not like you really lose anything in NW when you die just respawn and get back at it.
I don't see any hybrid PvE/PvP game being successful long term. At best development is split between trying to captivate 2 very different groups motivated by 2 very different purposes and that seems suboptimal. I do enjoy some competition and sometimes dabble in PvP modes for variety But all online, "anonymous" competition or online PvP generally reaches a point where people are abusive and making your game miserable. In "live" competition, you get called for fouls and for unprofessional behavior. You get thrown out of games for bad behavior. There is a culture to play by agreed upon rules. And you certainly don't put the pro team on the same field against high schoolers, and a pro team player wouldn't teabag a high schooler after stomping them to the ground. If you teabag someone in pro sports you'd probably have your ass handed to you, and maybe even by your own team mates. I'm not without a sense of humor, and I enjoy a good laugh with some of those antics. But it's not so funny when you are on the receiving end trying to do PvE content and not in a possession of sufficient skill or "character progress" to do anything about it. So hard pass until these games mimic live, fair competition.
The biggest problem with Ashes of Creation is all these videos about the problems it has.
Haha, loving it. Appealing to Archeage and L2 communities with your game is already showing. AoC is going to have one of the shittiest communities you will see in any MMORPG and I love it. We might finally get a game that gives full-loot MMORPG communities run for their money when it comes to community being absolutely dog shit.
as some1 that plays a lot of BDO i revel in open world combat even against people that far outgear and out number me because competition breeds winners and alot of the systems in this game rely on pvp like the caravans which will be a cornerstone to nodes and rival nodes economy or sacking said rival node with sieges to upgrade your own node. Im betting that there will be world events triggered only by …………. u guessed it PVP if your so dead set again it just dont play the game go play ur carebear servers on wow or play hello kitty im an adventurer GREAT VID my guy
Ashe's system is going to work just fine. It just needs the zones from Archage that switch between peaceful and pvp
As someone who played Runescape in 2001 and loved the open pvp where dying always lost gear this system means nothing to me gunna make a guild of like minded freebooters and roleplay a pirate or bandit guild. All low levels gunna get ganked. then create new characters to with no corruption do it all over again and discord make this easy to organize. and if we can still items gunna do that to.
It's a PVP based game, so I won't be playing it. PVP isn't fun for me. But, as long as everyone playing enjoys it and accepts the game will be smaller then a PVE game, it should be fine.
i have no hype for a game that tease us since 2017 this game used to look so beautiful but now its outdated and its not even out yet lol
God i hate this Narc guy man. Annoying little loser
I guess Noone play old mmorpgs before. Even "fashion" mmmorpgs had this always pvp stuff. Rappelz in 2007 have a pvp server (in pvp fight if u died u lose some stuff and severe stats debuff for starting or killing lower levels, and the more u killed the more "red" u became and could lose ur wearing equipment when killed) and pve server which had also pvp in same way just no stuff lost. Also something nice was when a mob or a player killed you u lose exp and even deleved. Perfect World My has open pvp as well. I met my wife there and she only pves and I was a "pkhunter" so was fun and shit happens. And we went to Tera when it just came out and u had pvp while fighting bosses (kinda what eso tried and failed with imperial city)
I've played Lineage 2 for years before it became f2p, with its flag pvp system, sieges, and guilds, I think that AoC got inspired a lot with this particular game and I'm extremely happy with that, becouse never ever after L2 I've played a MMO with pvp so vivid and guilds so well integrated and crucial. I hope that They will add some mechanics that reward group play (in L2 it was support system (buffs/songs/dances/heals) that allowed you to grind at all in first place)
"actually had a more pvp orientated game before they started to cater to the masses". And there it is.
You are the little fucker the mmo community needs right now 👌
Isn't the community going to be "divided" into multiple servers from the start? If Sharif wants to keep his game forced-pvp-only that is his choice, and I guess we'll see if that works out financially in 2026.
When I recently decided to give WoW Classic a try I deliberately chose a pve server not because I hate pvp but because I don't like PVP while I am focused on questing.

the main dev is from archeage. if you played archeage, you'd know the pve content in that game happens in pvp zones and can turn into some* pvp.
HOWEVER, <- VERY IMPORTANT 'HOWEVER' <- when players die, they receive a debuff that reduces their damage/receivedhealing/defense (by like 90%) when they get within a massive radius of the boss again. This is to say that if a pvp player walked up to your pve content, they might be able to kill a few of you, but ultimately 1-2 raids of people will kill them, and then they won't be able to disrupt your content for the rest of its duration.
Well, what about a raid of pvp'ers coming to disrupt my pve content, you might ask? Generally the attacking raid is smaller than the defending raid at the content, because pve'ers obviously don't go on the offense + lazy people, meaning that their attack has a very high likelyhood of failing- just by sheer numbers. This also incentives you to not afk at pve content, because just by being actively there, you'll add that extra cc/heal/dps that easily wins your raid the fight.
NOT TO MENTION, all these zones would move from normal -> war -> peace -> normal, which peace is when content can be done in these zones with 0 pvp possible. so if you really wanted to, you could turn the zone to war to get peace time during the content spawn.
(sidenote: no one was ever really in these zones unless they were there for a massive raid, at their house (housing area is safe), or doing some niche achievement; the idea that you randomly die while doing pve and get hard griefed just doesn't make a lot of sense; world pvp'ers will go to where content is to kill people, as it has the highest likelyhood to have players to kill)
Also, we act like the factions were always trying to fight each other. A lot of the time in archeage, the opposing raids would actively avoid each other for the sake of getting content done faster. Factions will develop rotations, so when the enemy raid finishes in one area, you're moving to it as they're moving to the next etc.
Also x2, the content had rewards that all players needed. This is to say that, these raids weren't comprised of pve'ers just waiting to get slaughtered by the pvp raid; you're in a raid with some of the best pvp'ers on your server, so ya the wolf could come to eat the lamb but end up food for the lion, and/or generally people who lead these open world pve raids you end up trusting to lead the raid with your best interest (ie avoiding enemy raid if that's what y'all want) and you attend that raid leader's raid daily/weekly. The raid leads also were often guild leaders, heroes, or geared players ept in pvp doing it with their equally pvp'ept guildies etc (because leading these events also awarded 'leadership' which is needed to be voted a hero of the faction blah blah blah).
Its a great system. Archeage was the best game ever created with only one flaw, p2w, boss man said it himself. If he sticks to archeage ideals, this will be the greatest game ever created i guarantee it.
New world really is the best example of the mistakes ashes of creation should aboid at all costs. As a console convert myself though, I just really hope they have nice controller support cuz I hate playing mk
What game was Rodent grieving in? Looks like much fun.
Steven is the Giggest of Chads!
pvp is integral for guilds and the bounty hunters and corruption system so pve servers would take a bit away from it.
Asmon smoothbrains coming to dislike the video already?
Game's not for me. Prefer PvE focus over PvP focus. Simple as
As someone who played star wars galaxies,
I NEED IT
Pve care bears
To be honest I like open pvp in hehehe: Star Citizen 😂😂 Yup, I think crime stat with prison is a nice idea. But this one in AoC also sounds interesting but we will see. Maybe in Aplha 2 they will enable it? For the time being we have only speculations. 😉
There is one thing that the system needs to sort out. Defending yourself from a "griefer" should not turn you into a combatant, if you lose when defending yourself they should still gain corruption. BUT people from different nodes should be free to attack outside of the corruption system.
All I got from Lucky Ghost's video is that he isn't the target audience of Ashes of Creation
