What is Ashes of Creation?

Ashes of Creation is a unique take on the MMO experience. Our world structure is dynamic and built to react to the actions of our players. Cities will rise and fall, their populations based on the history of the world as the players create it. Quests will unlock as these populations gather, their needs grow, and secrets are unlocked. As the world’s NPC structure is established in real time, players will have the ability to destroy what they’ve created, paving the way for new development, new populations, and real change. Political strife and intrigue will play a very real role in the structure of your world. Gone are the days of static worlds, change is here to stay.

Risk Vs Reward
All across Verra, you have the opportunity to experience massive warfare, participate in epic trade caravans, and gather valuable components to craft exquisite items. Not only will your fellow players be your adversaries; the creatures of the land and the very environment itself will pose a constant and fresh challenge. Will you siege castles to become royalty, defeat other guilds to showcase your prowess, shape the marketplace by being a successful trader, or earn renown by developing your artisan crafting skills? This is your story, you tell us!

  1. What he is advocating for is exactly what New World did. New world had a base game. There wasn't enough content there to keep people engaged. You literally had to grind the same content over and over. THAT killed New world. They have added a bunch of stuff in the past year, but it's too late. The damage is done and the game is dead.

  2. Josh is talking out his ass, half the time I think he's confusing Ashes Of Creation with Pantheon.
Also, being fed dogshit incomplete games for so many years, Josh thinks Ashes should release incomplete.
He's already forgot about New World's epic blunder of a "core game" launch.

  3. While I appreciate all kinds of different views, I personally think Ashes systems rely on each other too much to put out the game early and add systems later at release. That is what the Alpha 2 is for. The balancing of system interactions is going to be the major hurdle for the game to be fun. A little skepticism is healthy, but I feel Josh maybe transferring his frustration with other MMOs to Ashes. In the end, we all hope Ashes is a great and successful game.

  4. Josh seems to be misrepresenting Ashes' lack of Combat to showcase, Skill Trees to look at and other "core systems" like many consider main parts of an MMORPG as the "core game." Those two are not the same.

I feel like a lot of people do this. While concern for the lack of core systems to showcase is valid and fair to have, saying they need to focus on a "core game" before focusing on the rest of the game as a whole just seems silly to me.

Also, to call other gameplay loops, like naval systems, as "bells and whistles" is just a bad take in regards to all games. Let them complete the game, and that includes all game rules, maps, modes etc. The game as a whole will become the core game.

    Honestly a silly take.

  5. Steven commented on that video if you scrolled down further, asking if josh ever wanted to chat, he is available. josh liked the comment, hopefully he takes the offer

  6. JSH isn't wrong, he wants to be proven wrong I think – that being said, I think he hasn't checked Ashes updates in a while or he doesn't know the old scope of Ashes of Creation. He's not wrong on his theories on how to develop an MMORPG but I think he's wrong here, again not on theories though.

To be fair, we only suspect Intrepid is further than they're letting on, and we only have Steven's words that he doesn't want to spoil the sense of exploration of Ashes for when it launches.

  7. Vlhad, I love you buddy, and i completely agree with your take and i disagree with Josh's take here, its on the extreme end of pessimism, but FFS ITS WARHAMMER NOT WARFRAME!!!!

  8. This is a take that one of my friends has had since the entire time I’ve been following Ashes. He is the type of guy who thinks he knows EVERYTHING about a subject after watching a 5 minute clip from any 3rd party. It’s frustrating.

  9. This is the reason people shouldn’t talk about things they are not familiar with. He comes off pretty foolish, especially the taming video part as AOC never made a video about taming 🤣🤣
This is the same guy who told everyone in a previous video to not get hyped for the game as you will be disappointed, I bet he’s loads of fun at parties…..a glass half empty kind of guy 🤣

  10. I don't think his take is that bad. He just doesn't want this to go the route of Star Citizen. Ashes has a lot more going for it, more than any MMO at launch. It doesn't need the kitchen sink too. Something like animal husbandry is cool, but is it the end of the world if that comes down the road as an update? I personally don't think so. It IS a balancing act. It does need to hit it out of the park at release. But it also… needs to release. People have been starting to roll their eyes at Ashes because it's been taking so long to release, and it's also a death knell for people to start likening it to vaporware. I get you're hyped for Ashes… but you come off sounding like the sheep who back Star Citizen in this video, suffering from Stockholm syndrome. The features that Ashes has at this point are revolutionary and new. It has more than enough to stand out in the MMO crowd. I don't think minor things like animal husbandry are going to make a big dent on people's opinion of it. Even the naval update could be a nice big update for people to look forward to. It doesn't NEED to be there at launch, dude.

  11. He does alot of good things, but he has always had a lot of hot takes. But Instead of saying I don't know 🤦🏾‍♂️ he started going on rant that makes him look stupid.

WoW had a development team of 40 people. 20 years ago… Intrepid hired 30+ people a few months ago 😁

My phone is atleast 10x times more powerful than computers that they used to make WoW.

So I think we are fine 😁 everybody keeps talking about WoW and its development like it's the Gold standard 🤣 that was over 20 year ago.

Your telling me that 20 YEARS later with all the tech, all the experience, 2-3 times as many people, we can even Hope for better. 🤣

    Big L, horrible take 😁

  12. Thank god you had the same reaction as me. He's literally just talking out his ass lmao. I cant stand people that act like they know what talking about when they dont even bother to learn anything about it first. The crazy part is that so many ashes creators do the same thing where they will give some braindead "controversial" opinion without knowing any of the facts or what is actually gonna be in the game. Also it doesnt really matter that his viewers were hounding him to answer. He couldve just said he hasnt been keeping up with the game like a normal person but he has to prove he's an mmo guru

  13. I like Josh, but at times I feel like he is an MMO Doomer, somewhat like the average user of r/MMORPG. He's never really liked Ashes, and frankly there are few MMOs that I think he truly likes. To some extent I get that sentiment with all that has happened in this space in the last 15-20 years. People are not used to the idea of a AAA, fully-funded, Western-developed, non-P2W, non-WOW clone MMO being developed. We haven't seen that in forever. The negativity surrounding Ashes will not stop until it launches. If it is a successful launch and the game is somewhat close to what they have proposed in the past, then the hate will slowly subside and some of the haters will actually be converted to players. But Ashes has to deliver for that to happen. Until then, the haters will continue to be very loud. TLDR; I think Ashes unfairly gets hate because of the state of the MMO genre, and the hate will be around until the game is done and has the features Steven laid out in 2017.
